Ringsurf logged in, logged out

  • From: Deb

If I am signed in (or I dont log out) - when I hit the 'index' link in my
webring snippet on any webpage in the webring online it takes me to Ringsurf
ring management where I can access deleting people etc??? If I log out, it
doesnt - it just takes me to the regular list.

Does this mean that when I am logged in to webring management anyone surfing
the webring can edit my ring?

Deb

Reviewing the new ring management page step by step:

Members/Queue Management

The top left of the primary ring management reads:

Search [ ------- ] members or queue [Go]

This is a little confusing. I would rather see a link to (Mange Member
Sites) and (Manage Queue Sites) with the search box on the separate
management pages.

I would also like to see:

Search by:

Member ID
Member E-mail
Member http://
Join Date [mm/dd/yyyy] to [mm/dd/yyyy]

Please remember this only a suggestion and not a complaint :-)

Thanks again for all the effort you have put into the new system,
Debby T

How about ring adoptions?
After 3 years of the system not being managed, there must be allot of
abandoned rings, not to mention those managed by Hunter, and which were on
the old
home page.
Maybe a new category in the directory:
Ring Adoptions...

Reviewing the new ring management page step by step:

Main Section 1 Reads:

Ring ID:
Ring Title:
Ring URL:

Ring Status: [o] Closed to new members (on off check box)

Ring order:
Random
By traffic, low to high
By traffic, high to low
By site ID, low to high
By site ID, high to low The way you want your sites in your ring to be
displayed

---------------------------------------------

I would like to see two separate settings for *Ring Order*

One setting for how the ring displays to the public (list page and next
site) and a second setting for how the ring displays on the management
page... it would be a great help if I could set my rings to display
randomly to the public but have them display by ID low to high on
management
pages.

It's nice to have finally found somewhere providing information about what
is going on at Ringsurf. It's a shame that the new owners of RS think so
little of their users that it's too much trouble to let them know what is
going on. I'm not really interested in who owns RS as long as what I
signed
up for works. I did hear, via another ring manager, that ownership had
changed when notification e-mails went belly up. It was never clear
whether
there was a relationship between these 2 events. My point is that RS had
a
major problem that appeared to be affecting all their ring managers and
they
didn't take the time to tell us what was going on. There was no support
available - the e-mail address provided was invalid.

Having finally got notifications working the whole look of RS has changed.
I wouldn't mind if this actually added any functionality, or even matched
the functionality of the previous set-up, but it doesn't. It doesn't even
come close. So today I got an e-mail that there was a new site
submission.
No URL or any info about the site, just a very basic e-mail. I went to
the
URL I use for my site that logs me automatically. It doesn't work any
more.
I now have to go to the main page and sign in. When I signed in I
appeared
to be in the set-up page for my ring, there was no immediately obvious way
to get to the queue. Whilst I was in the set-up page I noticed that a lot
of the information describing my ring appears to have vanished into thin
air. I decided to deal with that later and look at the queue, having
found
that itty-bitty link near the top. OK, adding the site was easy. I
wondered what would happen if I wanted to test the whole ring, something I
do about once every couple of weeks. Oh dear. All the other things were
niggles; irritating mostly because they were different to what I was used
to
but now I'm facing a big problem. So I started checking a few sites out
of
the 400+ in my ring. The first thing I noticed is that someone can't
spell
"manually". The second is that when I check a site the page reloads but
I'm
back at the top again. When I scroll down it's not immediately obvious
what
the result of the check was - those handy colour-coded icons have been
made
redundant. When I checked my first failure and checked the site "manualy"
I
fond that the site did have the code displayed correctly - on a seperate
links page, like I'd said was ok when I set the ring up. I went to edit
the
site info thinking maybe the site owner had a re-design and forgot to
update
her site info but she didn't. Now her site info only provide space for
her
SITE URL - there is no additional space to specify a ring-code URL.

For now I have closed my ring. As things stand I don't want to run a ring
on RS. Someone earlier has posted a message that most ring-providers
started off with a similar very basic set-up with little functionality.
The
thing is RS isn't just starting off. It's a long-established ring
provider
which thousands of people use to manage there rings - some of which are
extremely large.

Reviewing the new ring management page step by step:

Main section 2 seems to be just fine as is

Main Section 3 Reads:

Ring logo url: [ http://mydomain.com/myimage
Ring logo size: [153] Width [104] Height

--------------------------------------

Setting the image size does not seem to be working correctly. The image
for
most of my rings are displaying much larger then the specified settings on
all RingSurf pages. The over seized image looks very distorted.

The code on member pages seems to be ok.

Thanks again

Good suggestion Pete, but you are getting a little ahead of Rob's request
to
test the current changes in the new program.

Yes, but this did result in my wondering if a Ringmaster can change the
category within which his ring is listed in the netring directory?

All of the info has been taken from initial sign up

***My password didnt work - thank goodness the password retrieval system
did
and that I still have that old email addreess - does this now mean that
every single ring members password also is wrong?

***The webring homepage is pointing to an old server
***the webring graphics are pointing to an old server
***now there are required links !!!!!!!! I am NOT going to be able to get
my
ringmembers to change their html again it just isnt going to happen
***STATS are totally wiped out?
***Cant find a way to check all sites with the ring checker at once. Even
checking manually it does not give me a response.

Nope no reason that any of the existing 30 thousand + ringmasters should
have been given AT LEAST a heads up so they could prepare for this !!!!!

I dont have time for this, especially at this time of year.

You might have been a bit hasty, though I must admit the Ring Management
page
is a rather scary experience when first contemplated by a long term
RingSurf
ringmaster (can you imagine Ringlink or WebRing taking all the ring
management
tools, and then placing them all on just one page, when they came out with
the newest version...).

What was the proceedure for closing a ring on the new RingSurf? Did that
feature work flawlessly?
That e-mail notice of a new site, and which doesn't tell you which ring,
when
you manage 35 is a big pain, and I certainly hope they fix that soonest
(still haven't found which ring it was......
A 'My Rings' page is certainly a big priority IMO.

Not sure, but it does not surprise me.
